Toste Tanhua – GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and GOOS, Germany

Toste Tanhua is senior scientist at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel. His professional research interest is in transient tracers. Toste did his MSc in Analytical Chemistry at Göteborg University in Sweden where he did his PhD on halogenated substances as marine tracers at the research unit Analytical and Marine Chemistry as well. Afterwards he worked as postdoctoral researcher in the Analytical and Marine Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry at Göteborg University in Sweden and at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of San Diego in California.

Toste is engaged in international work and has served on the IOCCP (The International Ocean Carbon Coordination Project) SSG since 2007, since 20010 as chair. From 2007 onwards, he is member of GO_SHIP (Global Ocean Ship-based Hydrographic Investigations Panel). Toste is co-Chair of the GOOS (Global Ocean Observing System) Steering Committee since 2017. In addition, Toste is a full member of SCOR WG 147 – COMPNUT and since 2016 he holds the Chair at CIESM, Committee for Physics and climate.

Toste Tanhua has participated on 34 open-ocean oceanographic expeditions and has published 88 original scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
